  • Palmo Mare – Serata d’Estate

    A SUMMER EVENING OF ART AND CONVIVIALITY

    On Wednesday, 19 August 2026, on the occasion of the traditional Summer Festival organised by Enzo and Daniela Sermattei at Palmo Mare in Ronchi, Marina di Massa, I had the pleasure of presenting a selection of twelve of my works, some of which were being exhibited to the public for the first time, including After the Night, the Work Is Not Yet Done and The Suspended Stillness of Valletta.

    For one evening, the long row of beach cabins was transformed into a small and original open-air gallery: twelve works, displayed one after another along the walkway, each individually illuminated against the blue walls and white cabin doors. As evening fell, the lights created an unusual and evocative setting, guiding visitors through the entire exhibition.

    More than a hundred people, including regular guests of Palmo Mare and outside visitors, took part in the evening, made even more enjoyable by the clear sky and live music. The aperitif offered by Enzo, with sparkling wine, pappa al pomodoro, couscous, cold cuts and small cream-filled krapfen prepared by the Palmo Mare kitchen, completed an evening of art, encounters and relaxed conviviality by the sea.

  • July, an Almost Deserted Beach

    Sometimes it is not the grand landscapes that strike me, but the moments that seem to pass unnoticed.

    A little girl, her small dog, the sea before them. No running, no noise. Just time suspended in a simple moment.

    I did not take that photograph with the intention of painting it. It was the image itself that came back to me days later, asking to be transformed into colour.

    On this small 20 × 20 cm canvas, I tried to convey not only a scene, but also a feeling: the freedom that belongs to childhood, when the sea seems endless and a dog on a leash is the perfect companion with whom to explore the world.

    The subject was painted entirely with a palette knife.

    I observed the scene while walking along the beach at Marina di Massa. The following day, I described it to an AI in order to obtain a preliminary study image, while the final work was created entirely by hand.

    AI does not make the decisions: it accelerates the study phase. The ethical principle lies in two things: not copying other people’s material in a non-transparent way, and openly stating that AI was used as a design aid, while the final artwork—and all the artistic choices—remain my own.

  • Phare du Petit Minou

    This lighthouse is built against the Vauban military fort of the same name and aligned with the Portzic lighthouse. It is 26 meters high, reaching 34 meters above sea level, and stands on a giant rock jutting out into the waves. Its main role was to ensure entry to the port of Brest, and for this reason, the French Navy requested its construction in 1839. The lighthouse is built in cut stone extracted from the Aber-Ildut quarry, under the supervision of Louis Plantier, an engineer who participated in the installation of about fifteen lighthouses in Brittany.

    My painting reproduces a photo that takes the lighthouse from a very low angle, capturing the moment of sunset inside the arch of the stone bridge.

    I chose to do it entirely with the spatula and I discovered how important it is for this tool to be flexible and of the right size to enhance each detail. The effect of the spatula is important, especially in the modeling of bodies and masses such as rock and stone.

    I chose a canvas that developed the painting horizontally and in large dimensions, which required much more time and work, with particular attention to capturing and replicating the colors in their right temperature.

    I also loaded the lighthouse light with color, more than it is in reality, because I like to highlight the importance of its function in navigation and in life.

  • Procida – the mosaic of the Gulf

    On August 3, 2022, my wife Luisa and I spent 10 beautiful days in the Gulf of Naples. Naples, Procida, Ischia, Capri and Sorrento. A tour in total tranquility, interspersed with ferry trips, walks, romantic dinners and above all lots of photography.

    In the beautiful Procida we were accompanied by APE taxi by Mr. Peppino who helped us discover the most fascinating corners of the island.

    This winter I then extracted from my photographs of that day perhaps the most classic one which I then reproduced in a painting, all color and depth.
