A TRIBUTE TO ANTONI GAUDÍ: WHERE ART MEETS LIGHT
From 7 November to 6 December 2026, the La Nuova Marna multipurpose hall in Sesto Calende will host “A Tribute to Antoni Gaudí”, an exhibition organised by the Circolo degli Artisti di Varese to mark the centenary of the great Catalan architect’s death. The event brings together diverse artistic sensibilities and forms of expression around a legacy that continues to inspire wonder and fresh interpretations.
The opening will take place on Saturday, 7 November at 4:00 p.m., at the La Nuova Marna Auditorium, with an introduction by Professor Robertino Ghiringhelli, Professor Emeritus at the Università Cattolica in Milan.
In Gaudí’s work, nature, geometry and spirituality intertwine in a profoundly original vision of architecture. Plant forms become structures, columns evoke trees, and surfaces embrace colour. At the Sagrada Família, this vision achieves a particular intensity: light streams through the stained-glass windows, follows the passing hours and transforms the space into an experience of contemplation and wonder.
The exhibition invites visitors to encounter this universe through the eyes of contemporary artists, opening a dialogue between the master’s imagination and the expressive freedom of those who draw inspiration from his work.
Among the participating artists is GianPaolo Macario, known as GPaolo, whose interest in Gaudí has already found expression in two paintings dedicated to the Sagrada Família: “Ascent towards the Light: The City’s Arms Reaching for the Sky” and “Light in the Fourth Dimension”. In the first, the building’s verticality becomes a spiritual aspiration; in the second, light takes on a living presence, transforming shapes and colours and making time perceptible. These two interpretations reveal a personal engagement with the poetic power of Gaudí’s architecture. “A Tribute to Antoni Gaudí” offers an opportunity to rediscover a master through fresh perspectives, guided by his ability to unite the observation of nature, experimentation and a yearning for infinity. An invitation to look beyond forms and discover in beauty a possibility for connection and contemplation.
